I heard that if you have snowdays from school there wont


actually be less days in school is that true?

It depends on the school. I know at my college, we had a few "reading days" at the end of each semester before finals when we had time of to study, and if we had snow days then we would have class on those reading days. Some colleges/universities just let there be one less day of class and leave it up to the profs and students to make up that time. It would be unlikely for a college or university to keep you longer in the year, though, because they know people plan ahead and may have commitments ahead of time based on the scheduled end of school (summer jobs or plane tickets or whatever).





Elementary, middle, and high schools are required to be in session a certain number of days (usually 180), and have to make those up somehow no matter what. Some counties have days already built into the calendar that will be teacher work days or days off unless there is a snow day, in which case they will be regular school days (I know my county does, not sure about others).
Reply:It depends on state law. Most of them have a set number of catastrophe days (which include not only snow days, but heat emergencies, school fires, bomb threats--anything that closes school on a regularly scheduled day). If the school uses up all the catastrophe days, then each additional day of closing must be made up somehow (some schools do end of school year, some might squeeze it out of spring break, etc.).

Reply:no if your school finishes at a set date thats when it will finish. the end of term has to stay at the aranged date otherwise people would not be ble to book holidays etc..

My family and I have been trying to plan this trip since June. I really want to go, but it it has been really hot lately and not alot of snow has been around. Reply:June is Summer in the Northern hemisphere but Winter in the Southern hemisphere. Temperatures in the South hemisphere would be cold so if you live in the South hemisphere that's why.

I have to agree with other people the US is having an extreme heat wave...it's nuts and miserable...no snow for us only hot hot hot and humid and stormy and tornadoy! (if that is a word)

Why is there SNOW!?
It would make sense if a strong cold front passed through. The cold front would lift warm, moist air up to the cloud level. It will then be cooled below the freezing point, and snow will form. It doesn't matter what time of year it is. As long as the conditions are favorable, any kind of weather phenomenon can occur.

Where (in the United States) should I move?

I live in Portland (Oregon), but I would prefer to live in another city by early next year. I am not going to say that Portland is a bad city, but I am a bit tired of the gray skies and rain from October to early June and the lack of restaurants/businesses open on Sundays and after 9 pm.





My requirements: more than 125,000 people; wide variety of restaurants and shopping centers; selection of things to do (other than bars) after 10 pm; affordable (no more than $800/month for a studio apartment); and accessible locations (not having to drive twenty miles to the nearest supermarket or restaurant).





I can handle snow, but I would prefer to live where it does not threaten to rain every day during the fall and winter. I can tolerate warm weather, but I prefer dry heat instead of humidity.





I am not that interested in living in the South (except for perhaps Texas), and I cannot afford NYC or San Francisco. If I could, I would easily pick San Francisco.





Where should I move?

Where (in the United States) should I move?
Texas is my number one choice, South Texas where I'm at right now I'm right by the Gulf and it's just incredibly gorgeous and awesome here also I live 7 miles from Mexico Very economical to live here. If you prefer less humid San Antonio, Texas or Austin, Texas There both great cities and lots to do and the weather it just superb.
Reply:Well San Francisco is out is over a $1000.00 per month for a room alone.


I would move to Dallas, I have lived there it is great! There's plenty to do, lots of great restaurants and its very affordable, much cheaper than Portland.


I have lived in a lot of places Dallas has been the best yet. Houston has good areas next to bad ones (neighborhoods) Dallas is segregated by social-economic class (your neighbors homes cost about the same as yours, LESS CRIME)
Reply:I can't tell you where to move, but I can tell you where not to... don't movie to Michigan.


We only have 4 months of nice weather, it's cloudy about 50% of the time, and the winters are terrible. It's quite humid in summer months as well. Above all, the economy really sucks There are no jobs here. The state government is horrible.... In fact, I can't wait to leave.





Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live here!
