Is it good to visit Australia at the end of May?

My family and I will visit Australia at the end of May until June. It's my first time and I wonder if the weather will be good at this time when we get there. We're going to Sydney for sightseeing and we're going to swim in the Bordi beach there because we want to try it for our first time. Anyone, is there storms, snow, or any bad weather at this time? What is the average temperature in Australia in May and June? Also, were going to Gold Coast for more swimming in the beach. In fact, unfortunately our plans are fixed and we cannot changed it. Also, this is the only vacation time available for us. We have no idea what the weather in Australia is like and we only knew the weather in the US. Anyone, help inform me about the weather in Australia.

If you want information on weather patterns in Sydney have a look at this website:

Do not worry about storms or wild weather, we get that kind of stuff usually around January!

If you want snow, you will have to go to the Snowy Mountains, about a 4-5 hour drive south from Sydney. Snow is just starting to fall there now. In the dead of winter, some snow falls in the Blue Mountains, but it is rare.

If you are planning on going swimming at Bondi at the end of May, I would recommend getting your hands on a wetsuit. Otherwise you will freeze! The Goldcoast will be great for swimming though.

You will have a wonderful time in Australia. There are plenty of other things to do in Sydney besides swimming. You can climb the harbour bridge, there's heaps of shopping, restraunts etc, go to Darling Harbour, China Town, Botanical Gardens. You can take a day trip to the blue mountains or the hunter valley (wine counrty). Have a meal at the top of centerpoint tower, go to Luna Park, ride on the monorail, catch a ferry to manly or the rivercat to parramatta, visit sydney aquarium or the powerhouse museum or Taronga Zoo. There is so much to do!

You can also buy what's called a Sydney Smartvisit card which allows access to a lot of tourist attractions. Get more information here:

I hope this has helped you. You will have a great time here!
Reply:it will be a bit cold to swim at bondi at that time of year but no snow not sure about the storms they are unpredictable but i doubt there will be any worth worrying about.. im sure you will love sydney ... theres so much to see and do ... you will have some fun in the water at the gold coast.. QLd is known as the sunshine state and it's usually warm up there at this time of year.. our summer starts in december . have a great holiday in our beautiful counrty :)
Reply:hi i am from melbourne - im a flight attendant so have travelled extensivley around australia. May and June is very cold for us but our july and august are our snow months. it doesnt snow everywhere like in the states it only snows in the mountains. u should be fine in them months. Gold coast can experience bad storms but the temperature will be alot nicer ranging from 20 - 27 degrees. definately go and see the theme parks - u can get a 3 day superpass for the 3 parks from around $150 AUD i think. the water park is actually called wet n wild! if ur a fan of big brother on tv u can actually go to live shows at dreamworld during that time as our big brother starts tomorrow night! a must see is melbourne though best city in Australia!!! hope this helps!!
Reply:the Gold Coast will be nice at that time of year mid to low 20s c though can get a bit of rain at times . sydney will be cooler could even be cold as you are coming at the start of our winter so could be too cold for that swim at bondi beach . what a shame . plenty of other things to see and do though just not a good time for swimming .
Reply:Austrailia is exactly the opposite of the United States. They are going into there winter months as we enter into our spring. The summer over there is December.
Reply:Hi, you are visiting Australia during their winter season! So you will be expecting temperature ranging from below 20 deg C in the day and below 10 at night! So do be prepared. Especially in Sydney. Sometimes you can even get snowfall. Anyway, there are nice sites to visit around Sydney, pretty scenic too. And I guess it will great time to try the Australian wines in the cold weather.

The Gold Coast and Bondi Beach, well, will be a little chilly too, even if they are further up north. Probably you may want to think about visiting the theme parks there like Sea World, Dream World and Water World. Hmm, forget Water World. And the casino in Brisbane.
Reply:I lived in Sydney for 3 years. At the end of May unti June is winter time in Sydney. But winter in Sydney is not so cold like in US and the temperature around 10 degree Celcius. If you like to go to the beach it's better for you at the end of October until February. The beaches are so good and clean. Many beaches you can go. Bondi beach is always pack with people during summer time. Sydney has nudist beach if you like to go having full suntan. I missed Sydney alot.
