I am planning a trip to Vermont over Christmas. I was originally planning on flying but would need to rent a car (very expensive if under 25) I am now thinking about driving instead. How would road conditions be during the Christmas holiday. I live in Florida and am not used to driving in snow that much. (I did however drive from Montreal to Boston when I was 17 in January. ( I have also made the FL to VT trip in June, but of course that is totally different.
Is this a really bad idea? Are the roads covered in snow? Should I just suck it up and pay to fly?
Thanks!
Would I be foolish to drive to Vermont in December?
i live in fl, and i drove in snow one time, and in december mostly ur ok, but if u have a bad day ur not gonna wanna do it, itll have freezing rain and beein from fl, ur gonna have more problems than u can deal with, cause im shure u dont wanna mess up ur car, it may be more expensive for the rental, but if u fly jet blue into burlington ur air fair will be really good
Reply:It's really hard to say. Last year we didn't get much snow, so it wouldn't be an issue. But this year, who knows?
Reply:I would just fly. If you are familiar with the New England weather, you know it can change in 10 minutes time. We might not have any snow then or we could have 3 feet. If you aren't experienced that much will driving in snow, then I wouldn't do it. You also have the other states to travel through that get snow and not all states are able to get the roadways cleared as fast and efficiently as us "Yankees". Seriously as you said suck it up and fly. Jet Blue does have some decent rates as stated.
Reply:Depends on where you're going in VT. If you come up the western side of the state (Route 7) you should be in good shape. We don't really get significant snowfalls until January. December is typically a dry month. And yes we do have snow plows and they do a good job keeping up with any snow that does fall. However, if you're going into the mountains there are some roads they do close for the winter. In the mountains it snows by November so those roads can sometimes have some snow on them.
