Infant clothing sizes... i'm having my little boy on April 27th in Michigan?

the weather is SO UNPREDICTABLE here. we could have 4 foot of snow, or it could be 60 degrees and sunny. i'm having a hard time deciding what sizes to buy for clothing. the doctor is GUESSING the baby will weigh around 8 pounds (based on ultrasound measurements).

no doubt about it, the weather will be MUCH nicer by mid June. if i buy newborn-3 month sizes will that get me up to the middle of June... and then buy 3-6 month sizes to get from mid-June through the end of August? i want to shop before all of the cute stuff is gone... it's bad enough that the stores have already clearanced out all of the winter stuff anticipating summer... ANY HELP would be appreciated!

Many children never fit into the 0-3 month size clothes. I would buy the 3-6 for the smallest size...and then go up from there. I had many clothes bought and given to me that my children could never wear. Especially if the doctor says that he will be 8 lbs. I am the mother of babies born weighing 8-1, 9-9, and 9-5. I would never recommend buying 0-3.
Reply:I would go ahead with your plan. My family told me to buy bigger clothes for my daughter, so I bought everything in 3-6 month sizes, and a few newbor outfits. I wound up sending my father toBabies R Us to see if they made anything smaller than newborn, because my daughter was swimming in them. (Gerber has a size called just born that works really well). My daughter now is 9 weeks old, and most newborn outifts are still huge on here. I know it all depends on the size of your baby, so having a variety of sizes is great, but don't buy too far ahead.

If you need winter stuff, check on Ebay or craigslist.
Reply:I would buy all your clothing bigger. Don't go by the months on the labels. I had a baby who was 7 lbs and with in a month he was wearing 3-6 and some 6-9 months. He's not big for his age, he's actually normal. He's 7 months old now and he wears 12-18 months.

So my advice is so buy only a FEW tiny outfits, and then the rest of them a few sizes bigger, because the baby will grow so fast you wont have time to wear them on him.her. I still buy my clothes for my kids a little bigger because you never know when they will hit a growth spurt.
Reply:your idea is good. for the unpredictable weather outfits that have pants and a short sleeved T-shirt work well for hot or cold weather. you can put a onesie underneath if ti us too cold and even a sweater over it.
Reply:As a seasoned mother of a 2 y/o and 4 mth old, I suggest that if you're not sure what sizes to go with...find a good consignment store and get a few outfits in each size. This way you're not out a bunch of money if you buy all 0-3 mth clothes and your son is only in them for a month. Once he's born you can go from there on his sizes. I know that a lot of people are unsure about going to consignment stores, but nowadays you can find name brand clothing in nearly new condition for great prices.
